Faceless Violinist

Connor hunts to survive an insatiable hunger — until a foul-mouthed master awakens a new appetite in him: a hunger for knowledge and a destiny he never sought.

Chapter 1

Apprentice of Alchemy

A large bird of prey flew and hunted from a great height. He seemed to negate gravity and reject time with his swift way of flying through the sky that he rules. He was a magnificent being guided by the instinct of survival. Without malice, without rancor.

A few more seconds were enough to lock his target in his vision. A little rabbit that had felt at that moment about itself a strange pressure.

But it was late, the perfect movement of both the bird and the rabbit made the creatures glow strangely for an instant. A moment captured by a boy named Connor, who could not smile or be sad about that outcome. The bird carried the rabbit in its talons and Connor continued on his way, catching up with his grandfather who hadn't paid the same attention as Connor. He knew well the reason why the bird hunts the rabbit.

It was like this, on the outskirts of a small border town within the territory, a young man was growing up in a cabin, almost like any other boy his age, a young man named Connor. Most of his life he lived in that cabin.

The little cabin was simple, but it had three comfortable rooms, a small kitchen, and a simple garden full of life.

Like most, when he turned nine, Connor still didn't know what he wanted to do with his life. I just wanted to live without worries, to be able to play around and above all to eat, eat a lot. He knew many people, but he had no one he could call his friend, nor did he have any brothers or sisters. Although he wasn't a lonely boy, Connor wasn't particularly social. At least by choice. I just couldn't create a meaningful connection with other people. He lived very far from the others. So much so as to consider him a hermit along with his grandfather and aunt. Since he was young he enjoyed hunting and eating what he caught with his grandfather.

Always dressed in light clothes and a long scarf around his neck, Connor was a young man with a somewhat particular appearance, starting with his eyes, the iris of each of his eyes was different, one eye black as night and the other amber. Even so, it could fit anywhere without attracting much attention, almost going unnoticed. It was precisely what he did when he arrived in town.

Instead, Connor's grandfather had a totally different appearance. Known to everyone as Don Franco. He was a fully muscled old man with a large beard. You can see from his facial features and the color of his eyes that he was once a rather handsome man.

Just look at her daughter, a rather beautiful woman, but quite serious. Connor's aunt, known as Kiara.

For as long as Connor has consciousness he has always lived alone in the cabin in the woods with his grandfather and young aunt.

So time passed.

In the present, Connor was fifteen years old, about to come of age. He already knew what pain was. His grandfather suffered from a rather strange condition that made him overly aggressive from time to time. Sometimes, Connor suffered severe beatings from his own grandfather, only the desire not to see his aunt suffer alone kept him in that place without escaping.

Of course, her aunt would never leave her father alone. No matter what.

The next visits to the village were more frequent. Little by little he got to know the world a lot more. At least a small fraction in the form of a town. The town was a fairly quiet place. There wasn't much of a guard presence. It was not necessary. A town quite far from the others. Perfect for those who want to live in peace, live hidden.

The town does not exceed a thousand inhabitants, but that number seemed to increase rapidly in recent months. The small and old houses were being bought by travelers who saw this as a cheaper solution than staying in inns. Businesses began to experience greater demand and income. Even new merchants arrived to establish competition.

One day Connor was in town. She was looking for some things ordered by her aunt, mostly condiments and cooking ingredients. As well as a new frying pan. He of course had no money, he took many medicinal plants that his aunt produced with his help. Connor didn't know what the plants were for. Neither does his aunt. But it turned out that his were particularly popular with buyers of such plants.

Connor didn't know the names of the plants. I just knew they were selling very well. In fact, Connor wasn't robbed on the way to town because of his grandfather's reputation. After all, with the current plants you can get at least three silver coins.

The store owner showed his excitement at Connor's arrival.

"Connor, I'm glad you came." said the owner of the store where Connor sells his product. “People were starting to say that I'm hiding the special merchandise for the nobles. said the owner of the store somewhat sadly. "My aunt didn't want to rip them out yet." He says that the plants are ready when they have to be. “She is a true saint. said the store owner.

In the store was the owner, another person looking at other plants and Connor.

"Here you have. Connor said. "Perfect. I'll give you four coins for everything. said the store owner.

Connor was surprised. I was expecting only three coins. The thought of an additional coin gives you quite a bit of joy.

Suddenly the other person in the room, who seemed to be picking up the scents of plants and other ingredients, turned his attention to Connor's merchandise. The sound of the woman sniffing heavily could be heard.

Connor hadn't finished passing the merchandise to the store owner.

"Disgusting…" the woman said, sniffing in Connor's direction. "Is it red nettle?" What a strong and vital smell. said the woman approaching. "Yes ma'am. This young man sows them together with his aunt. said the store owner with a smile. "Incredible. said the woman looking at Connor. "You don't look like a botanist." Well, whatever, I'll give you fifty silver coins for that handful of red nettles. the woman said, pulling out a heavy bag of coins. Snatching from Connor's hands all the plants. "What? Connor said as he received the small bag of coins.

The store owner was the most surprised.

Sure, the store owner made a nice profit on the plants Connor brought in, but it was only double what he paid. He earned twelve coins with an investment of only three. She had been feeling a bit unwell lately, so she increased the number of coins by one.

But what just happened left him quite shaken.

"These plants are well cared for, it's worth it for me to stay in this town for a while. said the strange woman, leaving the store. "Boy, come with me, let's talk business." the woman told Connor before walking out the door.

Connor of course went after her. He was not stupid. He had seen an opportunity that he couldn't pass up.

Just a thought in Connor's mind. All this time he has sold the plants he plants with his aunt at a ridiculous price.

"What has happened? the shop owner asked as Connor left his shop with a large bag of silver coins.

Outside the store Connor caught up with the woman.

"Damn it, I like these horrible plants a lot, the more I see them the more I feel I have to pay you. said the woman. "Sorry. Connor said sadly.

Connor had never heard anyone talk like that. It was more strange to hear a woman like her, of such a noble and beautiful appearance, use vulgar words.

“Silly boy, why apologize? I'll have more coins soon, how soon can you bring more of these things? "Each month. My aunt says it's the minimum. Connor said looking at the woman.

"One month?! Did you just say a month?! The woman yelled, not believing her ears as she shook Connor's shoulders.

The woman is twenty-three years old. His appearance was quite attractive. She covered her hair with a gold-trimmed scarf, her eyes were purple, and her height was above average. He definitely didn't live in town. He was like a nobleman who is forced to stop at the village due to a long journey. Still, she didn't look uncomfortable with the common surroundings. On the contrary, he seemed to enjoy traveling and staying in places like that.

"It's an awfully good thing." Your aunt sure has a gift. Who would have thought that, in a place like this, such a disgusting place, there would be someone like that. My luck is finally looking up. said the woman happily. "What do you mean?" Connor asked. "Somehow these plants have reached a very high quality in less fertile lands. The level of quality determines the price. I don't think anyone around here can afford this precious ingredient. The woman said seriously. "So you want to do business?" Connor asked. “You are quite young and perceptive for your age, I can see that. How about I teach you while I'm here? In return I will buy you more plants at a good price and give you other more valuable seeds for your aunt. "I think it's okay. Connor said, wondering if this was really happening. "Very well. said the woman. “By the way, my name is Farah. I'll take you to where I live so you know where to come when you have something to sell or one of my lessons for you. "Lessons?" What lessons? Connor asked, frowning. "I told you I would teach you." Damn, weren't you listening? "What are you going to teach me? Connor asked, frowning. “Alchemy, of course. Farah said casually, though she seemed to want to whisper. "But it will be our secret." Farah said with a mischievous smile. "What's that? Connor asked. "What do you think the plants you sell are for?" It is to make pills or medicine through alchemy. Do you live under a rock? Farah asked irritated and disappointed. "I can't, in fact, I only come to town for a few periods. I must return shortly. Connor said, turning down the teaching offer. "Really? It's a one in a million chance, being taught by me. But hey, it's your decision. Farah said more disappointed.

Connor now had something on his mind. She couldn't leave her aunt and grandfather alone for long. It was simply dangerous for her aunt. There is no way for him to leave without guaranteeing that his aunt will not suffer on his behalf.

Your grandfather is not a bad person. But his condition is very complicated. Once he himself asked to be chained during one of his worst days. But everything was worse. There were no chains so strong.

"It's okay. This is my place for now. Farah said, pointing to an inn. "Ask for me there." You can also leave me a message with the owner if I'm not there. "Thank you, Mrs. Farah."

"I hate being called that. Also, I should be thankful. Take this. Farah said, passing Connor some seeds. "I'll wait for you when you have more ingredients. These seeds are tough, pretty awful if you ask me, sure, in a good way I think. said the woman with clear doubts. "If you make the plants grow, come with me immediately." It will be our secret project. Farah said with a smile and left.

Connor held the bag of coins in one hand and a bag of seeds in the other.

He stood there for a good while. Just thinking of everything.

After some thought, he decided to continue his day as planned. She must do the things her aunt asked her to do or she would be angry. Besides, the good food was over. He also wanted to eat something delicious prepared by his aunt.

Connor bought all of them. Including the frying pan. He bought the best frying pan and also a new grill. With all that, he hadn't even spent seven coins.

Without meaning to, he had marveled at the power of money. A power he didn't understand as well as he thought.

Returning to his cabin, Connor went straight to his aunt.

Connor couldn't help but think that his aunt was quite a beautiful woman, especially when compared to the women he's seen in town. But the woman he saw today was also quite pretty.

"You took a little longer than usual. Kiara said with a frown. "What's all that?" he asked when he saw the things Connor had brought. "Did you spend all you got?" "Nope. Connor replied. "The plants turned out to be more valuable than what they were bought the other times. Connor said with a smile. “A woman who knows a lot about such things told me that you are very talented.

Connor is relieved to hear Kiara finally rested from Farah's emotional personality.

"A woman? Foreign? Kiara asked in surprise. "Yes. He gave me these seeds too. Looks like it's from a valuable plant. "How much did you pay for the plants?" Kiara asked interested. 'Fifty silver coins. Connor said, pulling out the bag of coins. "Incredible. Kiara said, counting the coins. “Look at everything I bought. Connor said, passing the things to Kiara.

Kiara didn't know what to say. I was happy with it. But there was something that bothered him about that person.

"Where's Grandpa?" Connor asked as he put the things down.

"He's waiting for you at the creek." Don't delay any longer. Go with him before he goes crazy. Kiara said, looking at the seeds.

What strange things, Kiara thought as she held in her hands the seeds that that woman had sent her without any details.

"Connor, what else did that woman tell you?" "Her name is Farah, she says she wants to teach me alchemy." "What's that? Kiara asked interested. “Turn plants into pills and medicine. But I can not go. I can't leave you alone with the old man. "We will talk about that later. Kiara said, touching Connor's head. “Go with dad.

Connor nodded and went to see his grandfather.

His grandfather spent most of his time on the bank of a nearby creek. In this place he tried to keep his emotions under control. After all, he didn't know when his next bad day would be.

"You're late. Don Franco said as he felt Connor's footsteps, slowly opening his eyes. "Sorry Grandpa, some strange things happened. "You are here already. On the floor, five hundred push-ups. Don Franco said without looking at Connor.

With no expression on his face, Connor began performing the push-ups ordered by his grandfather.

Don Franco was calm right now, looking proudly at Connor.

Preparation was an essential requirement within the tasks that Connor had. He had to make sure he was prepared. His grandfather needed Connor to be strong. If he didn't do this, Connor and Kiara would be dead at this point. It was all they could do.

"Do it faster. Don Franco said. "Get ready. "Yes. Connor said as sweat dripped from his nose. “Remember the basics of fighting. Don Franco said. “Use your mind when fighting. Save your energy for critical moments or hits. Take advantage of your enemy's flaws. Be efficient. "Yes, grandfather. Connor said getting up.

Don Franco got up too. He had taught many techniques to Connor. Most based on nature.

"It's time.'' said Don Franco walking towards Connor.

Suddenly a fight began between grandfather and grandson. Anyone would think it was a fight to the death. It was the fight for survival that Connor has to endure every day with his grandfather. A fight to keep his grandfather in check.

If Don Franco doesn't fight, he ends up building combat intent inside himself. An intention that blinds him and clouds his reasoning. An intent filled with violence that can easily

consume everyone around it. Don Franco is not a normal person. His special condition makes him extremely violent towards his loved ones.

"Is not sufficient! Get up! Don Franco yelled as he saw Connor collapsed on the floor. "Your bloodline is one of the strongest, don't give in, the Sirin don't give up!

Connor was tired from the push-ups, but that didn't stop him from having a friendly fight with his grandfather.

"Don't be careless. You still don't come close to my speed fighting seriously. Do you want to die? Don Franco asked, kicking Connor to the ground. "Don't be so slow, speed is power." Exceed my current speed. "Yes sir. Connor said, putting all his strength to get up once more.

Don Franco knew he was putting a lot of burden on Connor, but he had to make sure he was strong.

“Listen Connor, a saint will do what he has to do, a demon too. Cultivate your strength and don't let a weak destiny guide your step. There is much I would like to tell you, but you must mature faster. Your pulse will be violent, you must gain more control. Don't be carried away by hate, no matter what.

Connor didn't understand. He, in pain, assumed his combat stance to continue fighting with his grandfather. That was his routine, since he was seven years old. Connor wants to help his grandfather, make him proud. Even if he doesn't understand why.

By late afternoon, Connor and his grandfather had finished their routine. As always, Connor was exhausted and bruised. As long as he didn't lose control, his grandfather was going easy on Connor. But that's just from Connor's perspective. Anyone his age would be dead from the blows his grandfather gave him today.

“Let's go home. Didn't you eat well today? Don Franco asked with concern. “I ate something in town. Connor replied, getting up. “But it's never enough. Connor said with a smile, thinking of the food his aunt was preparing.

Don Franco could only laugh at Connor's words, although he didn't usually laugh. He knew that Connor was a wolverine, apart from fighting with his grandfather, they hunt together. The fifteen-year-old prefers meat in large quantities. His appetite is enough to shock any normal person. All that food is converted into energy that your body consumes quickly, so instead of being overweight, you have compact and defined muscles.

“Listen Connor, on your next birthday you will be considered an adult. Don Franco said seriously. "At sixteen, a lot of things won't make sense to you." I… I would like to tell you something at that time. "Why not do it now?" Connor asked as he yawned.

"I already told you, let's wait for your birthday." Don Franco replied. "Now, you must not be impatient, bear that in mind. Even with all your gifts and advantages you cannot be trusted. "Yes sir. Connor replied. "Bring firewood, I left some felled trees for you, that will be enough. Don Franco said to Connor, pointing beyond the lake. "After that, let's eat." Don Franco said seriously.

Connor headed in that direction, knowing he would have to carry heavy logs.

The man looked at the boy and felt a knot in his heart. Little did Connor know that his grandfather had a runaway tear on his face.

They returned to the cabin.

Upon arrival, the food was ready. The two of them sat down to wait for Kiara to serve the food. One of the few actions that seemed normal for the family. They could spend their time trying to suppress the terrible condition of Don Franco, but in the end it is a family that cares for each other.

“They're finally here. Kiara said. “The food gets cold. "It's the boy's fault, he's late for your errands. Don Franco answered with a smile. "Connor hasn't told you?" Good! Kiara exclaimed. "I'll tell you.

Connor cherishes those moments very much. Living in peace with his grandfather and aunt.

After a month and a week. Kiara had planted the seeds that Connor had brought with him. He told her that it was a project of the woman he met in town. The one who paid him so much for the plants.

Kiara watched as strange plants emerged from those seeds on the ground. They were pretty and had a good fragrance. Even Don Franco had noticed those plants. Something quite strange for Kiara. She had never seen her father interested in a plant in the small garden.

She saw the strange plant and wondered what the value would be, how much she could receive in exchange for the woman who was waiting in town for Connor.

But the plant had not yet matured. Kiara knew it instinctively. Even though the plant gave her that feeling of vitality, she could tell by looking at it. The plant will take much longer to reach its true form.

“Connor, the other plants are ready. Kiara said lifting Connor from the bed. "Good. Connor said, getting up quickly. “Ask the woman about the type of plant in the seeds she sent. I'm curious. Kiara said passing a bag with the other plants to Connor.

He had helped his aunt take care of the plants. The work was something they shared as long as Connor wasn't busy with his grandfather. The two of them were dedicated to an extreme level with every task, no matter how simple the task was.

Connor went to town and came back with a lot of things. He also bought things that he previously omitted due to the lack of coins. But now he has too many. The family funds did nothing but grow.

"What did that woman tell you?" Kiara asked Connor curiously. “It's called ash aloe. It is a medical plant. Connor said. In addition, it has relaxing properties present in its aroma. "Relaxing? Kiara asked in surprise. Farah was too surprised. He said that it is impossible to grow such a plant without fulfilling hundreds of requirements. She is willing to pay seventy silver coins just for a single plant. "Seventy? Will we be rich?! Kiara asked incredulously.

Connor knew that amount was enough money to be considered rich. I had no idea what I could spend so much on.

“Wait…it must be a mistake. Did you hear right? Kiara asked doubtfully.

Despite knowing that Connor has a perfect memory, Kiara was now doubting Connor's terrifying memory.

"Yeah, I didn't think so either." She repeated it many times to make it clear to me. "Incredible. Kiara said quite excited, so much so that her eyes sparkle. “The plants are amazing.

Months passed. Many things had happened that Kiara was beginning to notice. The other plants I had, red nettles developed faster. While he aloe ash was reaching maturity.

Perhaps the strangest thing was that Don Franco had not suffered from his condition in recent months. He seemed to be calmer. The training together with Connor was still strong, but he was in absolute control, not like other times. Connor kept getting better. Getting much faster, stronger, more resistant.

One afternoon, Kiara approached Connor.

"Connor, have you noticed a change in Dad?" Kiara asked looking into Connor's eyes. "His gaze is different. Connor said, still thinking about other things he had noticed. “Besides, you can control yourself every day. "Yes. Kiara said. "I think it has to do with the ash aloe." Dad has been breathing in the fragrance of the garden lately, so I brought a pot of one of the plants into his room. "The plant did that?" Connor asked in surprise. "Yes. I think it was the plant. But we must be sure. Kiara said thoughtfully. “Go to town for three days. Have Farah teach you about alchemy while you're there. "What will happen to Grandpa?" It can hurt you if I'm not around. Connor said worriedly.

“We have to try it. Kiara replied. "If nothing happens, it means the plant has the ability to help Dad." Kiara said excitedly.

Connor was beginning to doubt, he couldn't just make a bet like that.

"Please. Kiara said. “If this works, Dad will be free of his condition. We too. "I will do it. Connor said, accepting what his aunt said with determination. "Okay, take more red nettles and stay in the village for three days." Kiara said, ruffling Connor's hair lovingly. “I'll make you a lot of food to celebrate if I'm right.

Connor was excited to hear the other part of the proposal. Just imagining it whetted her appetite. I could already taste Kiara's food...

That day, Connor fell asleep early. Meanwhile, Kiara and her father went to talk near the creek.

By the creek the breeze was carrying the cold through the wooded area, Kiara was there talking to her father.

“Dad, Connor is getting stronger and he's almost sixteen. Kiara said. "You'll soon draw attention." Kiara added worriedly. “We must take care of him as much as we can. At least until he has his own sword. Don Franco replied. “Now it has become our family. But we cannot forget who he is, what he represents. "Dad, what if they find us?" Kiara asked worriedly. "We should get out of here soon, leaving Connor might be better for him too." We're just going to get in the way. "No, I can't control my condition, I can't travel anymore. You can go, but if you do, it must be with Connor. Don Franco said somewhat sadly. "His bloodline is a blessing for all, he needs you, much more in the future.

Kiara was sad, she didn't want to leave her father. She was hugged by her father lovingly. For some reason he felt sadder than ever.

He still didn't understand the sacrifice they had to make for Connor's well-being. He didn't understand all her feelings for him.

The next morning Connor left early. He carefully took the plants, changed his clothes and headed to the village. It had been a month since the last time. He saw in recent months how more and more people saw the town for some reason. It seemed that the town was getting bigger and bigger. In a way it was more prosperous.

Arriving at Farah's small house, she saw that there were more usual people there as well.

A man named Reuben, who was Farah's landlord, met Connor and took him to Farah.

"Are you here! Farah yelled when she saw Connor. “I have a few days off without family obligations. Connor said, handing the plants to Farah. "Can you show me a few things?" "Teach you alchemy?" What a horrible thing. Of course! Farah said excitedly. “My first student, it seems that my luck is changing. Also your destiny. Farah said with a smile.

Farah had really been moved.

Connor wasn't used to Farah's rather excited attitude. The other woman he talks to is his aunt and his aunt is quite serious in comparison.

"First of all, I'm going to give you some basic manuals of the common ingredients of modern alchemy, you don't have to be an expert in botany to understand them. Just memorize its main, secondary and passive effects. Farah said excitedly.

Connor couldn't understand anything.

"This will be exciting, you'll see, you can win a lot of money. Farah said patting Connor's shoulder, a beautiful smile on her face. "How much? Connor asked excited too. "I don't know, dammit, but it will be a lot." Farah said quite confidently.

For a moment Connor could see a bit of madness in Farah, but that didn't take away from the great expectations that formed in his heart.

That was how Connor began his first day, as an alchemist's apprentice.

A group of five people dressed in black with hoods and gleaming swords arrived at the crowded town. That group came from distant lands with a purpose.

“This place seems normal. said one person in the group. "Be careful. These types of places are preferred by those scumbags. someone else answered. "I can not wait more. We'll be famous after we kill that guy. said a man with an excited smile. "Remember what the witch said, we can only kill the general, the other prey belongs to her. said the woman in the group.

Lightning in the sky.

A storm was approaching the town. But no one was prepared, storms are common.

Chapter 2

Ashes

The next day, Connor formally began his training as an alchemist. He had to listen to Farah talk about different ingredients and their primary effects. As well as its side effects and hidden effects. A lot of information flowed right into Connor's mind. Hearing or seeing something, he just couldn't forget it. Connor has a terrifying memory. It was very easy for him to remember.

Farah realized this when she started asking him to test his teaching method. Farah's vast knowledge was relentlessly sucked into Connor's brain.

“Now listen, pay close attention. There are few methods to discover effects of ingredients. Farah said seriously. "The most dangerous and sometimes disgusting method is to directly taste the ingredient, the safest is to learn through a manual.

Connor nodded, making a mental note.

“His talent cannot be wasted. Neither did hers… Farah thought as she watched Connor's excitement at learning.

“Checking an effect on your own is no laughing matter. Farah said, emphasizing how dangerous the method was. First, you need a lot of experience. You can't just taste any damn thing. There is a lot of poison out there. Although Many can be identified by colors and patterns, others simply cannot. That's why you can't taste the ingredients yourself. "How do I do it?" Connor asked curiously. “The other methods are usually pretty horrible. Personally, I don't use any of them. Farah said proudly. "Your nose? Connor asked directly. “Hey, you ruined my surprise. Farah said with a pout. "Yes. I use my nose. It's easy for me to grasp those things. Horrible and unpleasant things, however, requires a lot of experience. I've done it since I was ten years old. My dad is an alchemist so I spent a lot of time smelling a lot of special ingredients with a lot of effects. "Can I do something like that?" Connor asked. "We don't know yet, but I'm glad you can." Sure damn, don't get excited yet. You need a lot of training before you move on to that. “Well, I only have two more days. Connor said a little sadly. "Never mind, I could go to your cabin and teach you." Farah said with a smile. "I may even meet that magical botanist who lives with you." Farah said excitedly. "Fine, but I'll confirm that you can do it." My grandfather has been sick and it is better that people outside the family do not come near. Connor said a little sadly. "Sick? I am like a doctor, I can see and try to help your grandfather. Farah said with a smile. "Really? Connor asked skeptically. "Of course. You may not know it, but I am something of a celebrity in the world of alchemy. It's just that I've strayed a bit from the traditional path. Farah said with a small smile. "It's okay. We will go in two days. Connor said thoughtfully.

Farah seemed too happy every time she got her way. She was having fun with her first student.

"Now, let's get more out of your memory." Farah said, pulling an old book out of a small chest. "Another manual?" Connor asked, watching the dust come off the old book. "I haven't read this damn thing in years, but it's helped me a lot." Farah said seriously. “This is a tome of forbidden alchemy, but it's not forbidden for the reasons you think. “I wasn't really assuming anything. replied Connor who didn't know the reason to ban something unless it's bad. "Okay whatever. Farah said, shaking the book. "This manual contains recipes for empowering the human body with alchemy. The recipes are difficult because of the rare ingredients, but they are worth it. This thing is prohibited because it can create a lot of chaos. Farah said with a smile. “Here, memorize all eighty pages now. Farah said, handing the old book to Connor. "Should I learn this?" Sounds like a bad thing. "Nope! Farah yelled. "I will not limit my student!" That goes against my principles. Farah said dramatically.

Connor could only look at his teacher strangely.

He immediately began to skim through the manual. Engraving each page perfectly in his mind. It had only taken him an hour to record everything. He could do it in less time, but Connor really wanted to read. Don't just flip through the book to keep everything in your mind.

"I've already memorized it." Although I don't understand much. Connor said truthfully, handing the manual back to Farah. "Impressive, now you just need real experience." Farah said looking at Connor like he was the funniest toy.

Farah walked from one place to another in the room. Thinking of Connor's monstrous ability to learn.

"Now you are going to read modern alchemy manuals." Some are from decent directors of academies. The basics in them will give you a better foundation for understanding the manual you just read. Farah said, handing three more books to Connor. "Do you want me to memorize all this?" Connor asked with some annoyance. "Yes. Do it now. Farah said in an authoritative tone that Connor couldn't resist.

Thus, Connor began to read modern alchemy manuals. Soon he had accumulated a lot of knowledge.

Connor had skipped many years of grueling study alongside scholars in elite academies and hundreds of hours of lectures on reagents, ingredients, effects, and preparation techniques.

Connor's eyes were lighting up with everything he was learning.

Farah stopped doing her own things to marvel at the way this young man was consuming page after page of the important manuals of modern alchemy.

Connor closed the last of the three manuals handed out by Farah.

"How you feel? Farah asked.

Connor didn't say anything. To Farah's surprise, he slumped out of his seat and fell to the ground. Luckily he didn't get hit, but he didn't wake up from the fall.

Farah hurried over to check on Connor's condition. She worried for a moment as she confirmed that he was alright. He definitely didn't want to overexploit his first student in his first lesson.

Concerned, Farah gave him a low level recovery potion. Enough to help Connor regain his energy and regain his condition.

"What happened to me?" Connor asked, opening his eyes. "Nothing serious. You should have taken a break before moving on to the next manual. Farah said with a frown. “Damn, you didn't forget what you saw right? “No, I can't forget anything. Connor said getting up. "That is incredible. Farah said looking at Connor with a complicated look. “I do not agree with experimenting on living humans. So I'm not going to test the limits of your abilities. Take it easy. "I just need to eat something." I'm hungry. Connor said a little embarrassed as a rumble was heard coming from his stomach.

To say that he was hungry was too little to really express his current state. Actually, he could face a worse state of insanity than his grandfather if he goes too long without eating. His appetite is of a bestial level, as it has been well controlled, very few know about that side of Connor. The beastly hunger has gone unnoticed, even by Farah, someone with a keen eye for such things.

"You should have said that before you started reading." You must tell your teacher everything. "Yes ma'am. Connor answered as if he were talking to an old woman. "Don't say ma'am, damn it, I'm not an old woman, I'm only a few years older than you." Farah mentioned, squeezing Connor's cheeks with one hand. "We are going to eat something. Farah said, pulling Connor with her.

Connor was nervous about being held like this by a woman. It was definitely the first time he had felt this way.

For a moment, Connor almost forgot how intensely hungry he was feeling. Even so, it was the first time he felt this hungry.

Although she was very good with rare ingredients, Farah preferred others to cook for her. That is why he seeks to go outside most of the time when he is hungry. She herself does not enjoy her food, even though they tell her it is very good. She prefers to be recognized as a great alchemist than to be recognized as an excellent chef.

Along the way, he began discussing alchemy ideas with Connor. The essential part of your training. While Connor could learn from the manuals, it was not the same as hearing about the experiments and reactions that the hidden effects of certain ingredients have. They are things that are not seen in the manuals that she passed to Connor.

Farah was very excited when talking about alchemy. His specialty is development potions. These potions seek to provide the body with everything it needs to improve efficiently. They can also help draw out an individual's potential safely without strong long-term side effects. Connor found out that Farah makes a fortune from those potions. He was also able to confirm that their main ingredient for the product was red nettle.

At a small food stall, a teacher and student waited for their food order.

"The nettle takes a year to be ready. Farah said, looking at Connor. "You don't know how incredible it is that your aunt can almost completely take care of them in just over a month." It's horribly amazing. "What about the ash aloe?" Connor asked interestedly. “That thing is even more special. Should not exist. The conditions for caring for them are a mystery. Not only fertile soil is enough. Other components that I have yet to understand are key. Farah said, stretching her body. “I don't know its effects, but I know it's very valuable. So I will definitely go with you to take a look at the ash aloe.

The food was finally served and they both began to eat.

Connor ate fast and intensely. It was a habit with him. In fact, he was a complete glutton. The food seemed to evaporate in his stomach, always wanting for nothing and a build that didn't reflect his wild eating habit. He was like his grandfather.

When Farah saw the opportunity, she struck up a conversation with Connor.

"There are many ingredients that seem rare, but are common in other territories. That's why I have to travel every once in a while. Farah said, sipping soup. "What made you come here?" Connor asked. "I do not know. I heard it was a quiet place. As soon as I settle in a place it gets noisy. Farah said with a sigh. "It's the curse of being me, damn it, my talent has marked me. Farah said, pretending to be tormented, putting the back of her hand on her forehead.

Connor smiles at the things Farah said.

"How do you feel now?" Farah asked. "Better. Connor replied, squeezing her hand. "Although I'm still a little hungry." "That's good, you're using your brain, ask what you want, I can't let my apprentice die. It will be the disgrace of my academy.

Connor didn't say anything. I could only smile.

"By the way, how old are you exactly?" Farah asked curiously. "Fifteen. Connor replied. "Cool. Farah replied with a mysterious smile. "Soon you will be an adult." It's a good thing you're only eight years younger than me. "What are you imagining?" Connor asked, somewhat shy and flushed. "We have no moral responsibility for our imagination, only for what we say or demonstrate, besides, I have not shown you anything. Farah said looking at the innocent Connor.

Farah let out a laugh that made Connor blush even more.

Farah's strange mood changed once more.

“Connor, as your teacher I have to warn you. Farah said with a serious tone. "Stay away from anything to do with Drowsy." "Who is Drowsy?" Connor asked. “Just listen to your teacher. Farah said, continuing her meal. “Drowsy is a being revered by all high-level alchemists, but that doesn't make him a good example. To be honest, I don't think there is anyone who can be your example, not even me. Farah said smiling.

Connor just kept thinking.

After eating, the two got up and returned to Farah's house to continue Connor's alchemist training. He was very interested in learning. For the first time in his life, he wasn't being taught how to fight or take care of plants.

Learning new things was exciting, especially with Farah, who was so different from the people he knew.

Every minute at Farah's house, Connor learned so much more. Skipping several levels of knowledge only on the first day. Farah was completely terrified of Connor's ability to devour all her knowledge. Others might see it as unfair. But she was very excited. He couldn't stop thinking about how he was going to present the prodigy he found in a border town forgotten by the governor.

Farah could imagine many things.

She always asked Connor questions, she could take the opportunity to see how much the young man had learned and at the same time refresh his knowledge.

That's how Farah saw Connor's ability to start putting everything he had learned together without fail. Farah knew that the hardest part was learning about the hidden effects of the ingredients. That was where Connor could shine. Without having personally seen the ingredients, Connor was able to intuitively take in their hidden effects.

Soon, Farah showed him her main ingredients and the mixing process. He showed him the importance of having good tools.

The quality of the tools had made Farah's eyes sparkle.

“I can't believe you'll get to this point in just two days. Farah said, handing a small mortar to Connor, along with eight little bags with ingredients inside. "Do you want me to make a pill?" Connor asked as he received the things. “Exactly, he makes a horrible, nasty pill. Farah replied playfully. "What pill?" Connor asked. "The best you can make with the ingredients I gave you." You don't need to use all of them, that's part of your evaluation. Farah said very seriously.

Connor began processing the ingredients using various methods. Farah watched taking notes on Connor's abilities. She knew she was demanding too much. But he had to know. He had to confirm that Connor was beyond the level of a prodigy. She wanted to see the extent of Connor's abilities in all their glory.

Only the sound of Connor processing the ingredients could be heard. Farah had blended into the environment. As if she had disappeared to leave Connor alone. But she was there, watching everything with great patience.

How is this possible? Farah wondered, seeing that Connor had cut processing time and could do too many things at once.

Farah's surprise wasn't over. The combination of ingredients that Connor took was completely different from what she expected. He was doing something she didn't expect.

Farah nearly lost all her strength.

The final stage had begun.

Connor was absorbed in his creation process. He couldn't make out Farah's surprised face. He really thought he was alone while creating the pill. At that moment he could feel how things flowed in his mind and his hands moved naturally. He had emulated Farah's preparation techniques and added his own newly created personal style.

Connor stopped and looked at his own creation. A three green pills. Those pills radiate a lot of vitality. They were high level concentrated power.

"Advanced pills. Farah said as she checked the quality of Connor's creation.

Of course, she was beyond the advanced level. But it had taken him many years to get there.

I think I'm playing with fire, Farah thought as she saw the powerful pill.

"Horrible, do you know what you did?" Farah asked from Connor's side, holding one of the pills, her tone serious. “He wanted to make activation pills, like it says in the old manual.

Farah looked at Connor in great surprise.

"Without a doubt a genius among geniuses, you should be thankful that I was the one who discovered your talent. The old folks at the academy wouldn't know what to do with you. Farah said with a smug look. "Talent? “So humble. What you did is enough to make the pitiful elders of the alchemy academy go mad with envy. Farah said with a big smile. "Even if you are a long way from your master's level, you certainly have a lot of talent." If you get to my age maybe you'll get over me. Farah said. "How about the pill?" Connor asked, seeing the emotion in Farah's eyes. “It's amazing, a normal person can't take this pill. We can probably sell it on the black market for a lot of money. "Is that how the teacher got rich?" Connor asked, just as excited. "Delicious? I'm not rich, damn it. I came here because I have a lot of debt. Farah said laughing like crazy. Then he stopped laughing, as if he had said something he shouldn't have. "But you said that I don't have your level, besides that pill is worth a lot of money. Connor said confused. Yes, but there are things you still don't understand. Your teacher earns a lot of money, but owes a lot more. In order to pay I need to increase my production, as well as have a constant supply of rare ingredients like the ones you just used.

Connor was really surprised by that.

"Does the teacher need an assistant?" Connor asked worriedly.

He just can't help Farah full time. Although she needs it, her family needs it too. The only reason he was here was because of a direct request from Kiara. There was no way he could fail to attend to his true obligations. Unless Kiara's plan works.

Connor thought of many things.

"I have assistants, but they are not enough, they have to hide or they lack talents. Farah said, looking at Connor seriously. "It's true that you seem like a good candidate, but I know you can't stay in town that long." In fact, I'm surprised you're here for so many days. “My aunt told me to stay a few days. Connor said a little sadly. "Yes. A botanist and a talented apprentice alchemist. You must come from a rather strange family. Farah said, looking carefully at Connor. "Well that does not matter. I'm going to teach you everything I can every time we meet. My main goal is ash aloe. Once I'm ready it's time to leave town. Farah said with a faint smile.

Connor felt strange. It felt somewhat empty.

“Let us leave your teachings today. Damn, it's very important that you rest. "But I'm not tired." Connor said, trying to walk and losing the strength in his legs.

Farah looked at Connor with a raised eyebrow.

“Making pills consumes a lot of stamina that you don't have. Now you know. Farah said, helping Connor to his feet.

Connor was very resilient. Physical training with his grandfather was quite demanding. He had gotten used to a heavy daily regimen that tested every muscle and sinew in his body. But Connor now felt extremely tired just from creating a few little pills. It was completely ridiculous in his mind.

"Don't worry. Take one of the pills you made. That will help you replenish your strength when you go to sleep. “You said a person can't take this. Connor said holding up the pill. “Besides, I made this pill with ingredients that don't belong to me. I have no right. Connor said, lowering his head. “This is nonsense. I gave you those ingredients and you made the pills. Farah said, shoving the pill down Connor's throat. "That my apprentice, it is horrible and unpleasant… swallow it and let your body activate with its power. Farah said looking at Connor on the ground holding his chest.

Connor felt very strange. Without realizing it, he fell asleep.

At that moment Farah seemed like a completely different person. She placed her hand on Connor's cheek.

"I'm so sorry for you," Farah thought placing her palm on Connor's cheek, she looked like she was about to cry. "Connor, I hope you grow up fast, I hope you don't hate me."

It was the first time Farah let go of her normal demeanor, right now she looked like she was genuinely worried about Connor.

Farah helped him and took him to one of the rooms in her house where he could rest while his body absorbed the full power of the pill.

At that moment Farah didn't leave Connor alone, she didn't let go of his hand.

On a path in the woods, a group of people were on their way to their goal. They had found clues to the person they were looking for. They went through a lot of trouble to find that person. But everything would have its reward. After all, they were commissioned by the governor himself. A person with enough power to change their lives forever. They were not the only ones seeking the glory and favor that the governor could give them. Hundreds of people across the continent had traveled in search of the bounty on that person's head. Whether alive or dead.

“It seems to be true. said one of the hooded men. “Ever since we arrived in this forest, I haven't stopped feeling a chill in my body. said a woman. "Let's go fast before he gets away."

The group continued to move through the forest. Now they had their swords in their hands. They moved stealthily, making little noise. They had become full-fledged hunters. The woman in the group had a bow and arrow in her hands. Everyone was prepared for anything that might happen. The closer they were, the slower and quieter they moved.

The next day Connor woke up feeling his body different.

Farah was working near him at her alchemist's table. The fragrances of the ingredients woke Connor. Although it was quite early, he used to wake up much earlier every day.

"Looks like you've recovered. Farah said smiling when she saw Connor, she seemed to be the same as always. "Yes, I feel much better." Connor said, his body feeling much lighter. "There's some fruit on that table, you can eat whatever you want." Farah said, going back to work.

Connor knew that part of his training was watching Farah work. She really had a high level. If he could copy a bit of his handling, he would be able to create higher quality pills or potions.

He could see Farah's ease in preparing the ingredients and extracting the substance from each one. Working simultaneously on several tasks that had to be completed throughout the process.

In the end Farah created a high quality potion.

"Take this. Farah said, passing the potion to Connor. "What is? "Can you guess? Farah asked. “Looks like an enhancer. Connor said. "Is it for the bones?" "Yes. It's for your bones. Farah replied. “Yesterday I noticed that you have a great physical constitution. You're very strange. Not only your mind is formidable, but also your body. You make me very curious. Farah said, looking suspiciously at Connor. “Still, I think it's best to help you now. You help me later. How about? "If I can help you, I will do it with pleasure, you are my teacher. Connor answered with a smile.

Farah left Connor for a moment while she went for another manual.

“This is the second volume of the ancient manual you read earlier. Farah said, handing Connor another old manual. “It has a lot of interesting, horrible, and disgusting things. The problem is the scarce ingredients. But, you can acquire the knowledge about the essences

of the ingredients that are used. Substituting ingredients you thought were mandatory is another way to show off your talent. In fact, you did something like that before. So you can broaden your horizon much more with this knowledge. "How many volumes do you have?" Connor asked looking at the manual. “Only this one. Farah replied. I have two volumes in all. They are horrible and unpleasant but very good. There is another one in the academy, but you must be an elite member to read it. Although you don't miss much, these are better. I have looked for those volumes, if you ever come across another one, don't forget to look for your teacher. Farah said smiling as usual. "It's okay. Connor answered with a smile.

Connor still didn't know. His life was about to change. His world was being shaken by forces hidden in the dark.
